Nonprofits must communicate some of the most important stories of our time, and video is one of the most powerful tools available. With the explosion of YouTube, mobile devices, KONY2012, and viral videos in general, you may be starting to understand the power of video storytelling, but might not necessarily know how to do it well. This visual and inspiring class will help get you started.
With tons of examples, we'll analyze the different types of advocacy video and learn why certain videos work so well, how they were created, and how they engage the masses. We'll also personalize the class to help you begin to develop a plan for your organization's video - What is your message? What is the most effective way to deliver this message? - and what you need to take those next steps.

- Avoiding non-profit pitfalls
- Planning for a video and what to budget
- How your video can help distinguish you from other organizations
This workshop is co-taught by Dana Romanoff and Amy Marquis, a full-time editor on National Parks Magazine. Amy is also the founder and editor of The Digital Naturalist, a blog dedicated to improving advocacy videos. Last fall, she spent six weeks on assignment for the National Parks Conservation Association producing and directing two short films about Yosemite National Park.
