Latest Film Incentive News

Latest Film Incentive News, First Reported By the Colorado Office of Film, Television & Media

The Squeeze

On August 8, the Economic Development Commission approved incentives for the independently produced golf film, The Squeeze. The director and producer, Terry Jastrow, has 30 years of directing experience. His credits include six Olympic Games, the Super Bowl, the Kentucky Derby, the PGA Championship, the British Open and the U.S. Open.  The production team has chosen to film in Durango after scouting with the Four Corners Film Office in mid August.  "We flew down to Southwest Colorado worried about what locations we would or wouldn't be able to find," said Mr. Jastrow, "but after scouting with the Four Corners Film Office we were thinking, 'what couldn't we find here?'"   Filming is scheduled for September and October.

Fast & Furious 7

On August 29, the Economic Development Commission approved incentives for the blockbuster franchise, Fast & Furious 7. They are scheduled for a 23 day second unit shoot on both Pikes Peak and Monarch Pass. With the approved incentive, producers agreed to extend their stay in the state and shoot additional car-racing scenes. Filming will beging immediately.

What do Colorado production, the Dustbowl and Crowdfunding all have in Common?

With only 12 days to go Colorado production company, Crooked Lake Productions, is quickly approaching its $15,000 Kickstarter goal for the new short film, Wrong Side Up, which is set in Colorado's Dust Bowl in 1935. Wrong Side Up is a coming of age story about a twelve-year-old boy whose fate is determined by his father’s departure and the impending Dust Bowl as he is forced to care for his family and their farm.

Filmmaker Henry McComas says,The crowd funding experience has been exhilarating. So far we have raised $10,922 from 87 individual backers and we need to reach a total of $15,000 by September 21 to make our budget. Time is of the essence and I believe this historical short will be great for Colorado. I wouldn’t want to produce it anywhere else.”

The production team is entirely composed of Colorado professionals and CFVA members, including award-winning Director of Photography James Drake who will be shooting on the Red Epic; Motion Graphics extraordinaire, Kevin Kerndt; and phenomenal film composer Chris Joye.

Rodney Wilson on Kickstarter

Colorado is often, by necessity, a grassroots community.  Here's your chance to repay one of our own for his generosity to a project you've worked on or simply pay it forward and keep the good will flowing.

Rodney Wilson has a new project on Kickstarter.  It's a simple, yet fascinating idea born of an insatiable curiosity.. what was it like to live in the 30's, 40's and 50's?  From major events to the little things, what would it be like to ask the people who were there?  The characters, the images, their stories and their perceptions of it?

Rodney plans to travel the U.S. gathering interviews with elders from all walks of life, from the colorful to the intellectual.  Then he'll combine beautiful photography with historic footage into a feature length documentary that is sure to be entertaining, moving, funny and surprising.  Please join us in supporting him.

90 Minute Running Time

Clean Guys Of Comedy

It's not every day that a national entertainment brand launches outside of Los Angeles or New York, but on Sept. 19, Denver's Buell Theater will be the site of the national kick-off of the Clean Guys of Comedy. What is Clean Guys of Comedy you may ask? Much like the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, the Clean Guys of Comedy will perform across the country, building a national following and appealing to audiences who crave adult comedy without the expletives. Think Jerry Seinfeld. Think Ellen DeGeneres.

Denver's comedy scene is thriving and this is a great opportunity to experience the next big thing in the stand-up world. We'd love for you to join us at this one-night-only event on Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. To purchase tickets, click here.
