CFVA Mentorship Program
Each year the CFVA pairs mentees with industry-leading mentors as part of an effort to uplift and strengthen our community. Once matched, each pair schedules sessions between them. Depending on the needs of the mentee and availability of the mentor these sessions can be Q&A, show-and-tell, or even a job shadow. Participants will have two months to complete the mentorship process.
The Mentorship Program will be open for signups for the fall and the spring. Please fill out one of the below forms, if you’re interested in participating as a mentor or mentee.
All participants will receive an introductory email and will have an opportunity to mingle with other mentors and mentees during our Mentorship Program Meet-up.
Who can be a mentee?
You must be a member of the CFVA to receive a mentorship. There are no other restrictions. If you are a student, a professionals early in your career, or a filmmaker looking to explore a different segment of the industry, we encourage you to apply.
who are the mentors?
Are you a film industry leader interested in sharing your insights and expertise with an aspiring Colorado filmmaker? Apply now to be a mentor! Once mentees are chosen we will find the best fit and put you in touch to schedule your time together.
Our mentorship program allows you to give back to your community, develop talent for your work and the good of film in Colorado and to really get to tap into the energy and excitement that comes from working with new professionals.
Additional info For Mentors
As a mentor, you will independently schedule a minimum of three one-hour sessions or one half-day job shadow with your assigned mentees. It’s possible to be assigned 2-3 new professionals with whom you can collectively plan your sessions.
You may use your session time to talk one-on-one with your mentee, arrange a show-and-tell, or have them shadow you on the job. The mentorship is flexible and should align with both you and your mentee's interests and schedules.
Some mentors choose to use the first session for introductions, then dive in deeper in subsequent sections. Mentors may choose the focus of each session themselves, or rely on their mentee’s input. For example if your expertise is screenwriting you might provide notes on a sample of your mentee’s writing, if you are a director or producer you might invite your mentee to shadow you on set, if you are an entrepreneur you might offer an anecdote on how you began your business or advise your mentee about best practices.
These are intended as guidelines and we encourage you to tailor the mentorship to fit both you and your mentee’s needs. Each mentor and mentee pair should find a unique version that works best for them.
